How to Repair Scratched Soapstone by Eco Fabrication
www.soapstonefabricators.com This Short Video will help explain what may and what may not scratch your Soapstone counter top and how to fix a scratch when they do occur.
Video transcript.
Hi I'm Jason with Eco Fabrication
I'm here today to address concerns about soapstones and scratchings and what you can do to fix it if it does happen.
We have a traditional oiled piece of black soapstone here and I have a stainless stell frying pan. Now normal ware and tare you don't really have to worry about scratches as you can see no scratches.
Now ever once in a while you may get a light scratch just remember there are only a surface deep and they are easily fix sometimes you could just rub your hands on it and they go away and if that doesn't work just use a rag with a little bit of oil...like so and it goes away.
Now every once in a while you may get a deeper scratch then it may need more than just to oil and what we do there as I'm going to scratch it kinda here there we go.
Now, I went to Home Depot and bought sands paper pads they are about five dollars each about sixty grid, one hundred grid, and two hundred twenty grid. And to fix it all I'm going to do to start off in a circular motion so you get most of the scratch out and move your way up with these pads. You may still see a little residual from the scratches don't worry once we oil it it will go away.
And at the end we're just going to oil it...and the scratch is gone.

As someone who carves in soapstone to remove a scratch depending on how deep it is what you have to do is work down to the depth of the scratch then with the finest of sandpaper you can find.. my polishing sandpaper will be either a 600 or a 1200 grit to give you an idea you polish it with that.. that will give you a blend with the rest of the countertop.. now i dont know how to finish a countertop so thats out of my realm of expertise i only know how to finish a carving so people cant scratch it so readily. I suspect your countertop has an epoxy finish on it but you would have to find out.. you might even have to oil or polish the stone before you put the finish on it to bring it to the same colour as the rest of the countertop as it has now been sanded.

Hello! Thank you for this video. I tried this. At first, my counter looked as good as new. However, after a few days I could see the area where I sanded. I would appreciate some advice or guidance on what to do. Thanks so much!
